Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was seen attending the Alaia Fashion Week in New York on Friday, 6 September. The seven-time world champion is often seen attending fashion events during the gap between races.
The 39-year-old is coming on the back of two difficult races after the summer in Zandvoort and Monza where he finished P8 and P5 respectively. Hamilton had gone into the August summer shutdown on a high as he won two of the last three races in Silverstone and Spa and finished in P3 in Hungary.
In his one-off appearance in New York for Fashion Week, Lewis Hamilton was seen in a Matrix-style look, wearing a long black coat and black sunglasses. In a video floating on social media, he could be seen arriving at the event in style.

Talking with Vogue, Hamilton spoke about his relationship with fashion and even commented that his fashion sense has evolved over the years. He said:
“I’m sure many of you look at your old photos and think, ‘What the hell was that?’ But what I’ve discovered is it’s a real process, a real journey. It’s just trying and being daring. I think I’ve tried so many different styles.”
“I kind of describe my style as an evolution. It’s whatever makes you feel great. The trick is about self-expression. None of us are the same as anyone else. We have our own unique tastes, but it’s whatever makes you feel sexy! Embracing confidence,” Hamilton added.
Lewis Hamilton chimes in on his love for fashion shows
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton shared that he has a deep love for fashion shows because of their diverse nature and mix of cultures.
He told Vogue:
“It’s taken me a long time to get fashionable—and a long time to actually convince the teams to change. I wasn’t able to wear my own things. And then I started going to fashion shows.”
“I really love the fashion shows because there’s a very diverse audience—so many different people from different walks of life, all dressed in their own styles, with no apologies. So it’s been a fun journey,” he added.
Speaking with GQ, Lewis Hamilton addressed that it has taken a long time for F1 to adapt fashion as he believes that “some of the crossovers I’ve been able to do have started to bring in new audiences. Everyone in general has started to be more and more open-minded and now no one comments on what I wear.”
The soon-to-be Ferrari driver has been a key figure in influencing other drivers to become more fashionable and showcase their clothing line in the paddock during the race weekends.
Drivers like Zhou Guanyu, George Russell, Pierre Gasly, etc are amongst the most fashionable on the grid and are often spotted arriving in the paddock without the team kit.
