Patrick Mahomes always reminds Brittany Mahomes to shake off the haters.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, who is pregnant with her and the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s third baby, shared how his advice about criticism helped her become more secure in herself and her relationships.
“He always told me to stop caring what people think, especially the people that don’t even know you,” Brittany, 28, explained on the Aug. 28 episode of the Whoop podcast. “I think social media used to get to me a lot and now, honestly, I don’t give a f–k what people have to say about me anymore.”
“I think he’s helped me get to that point to where I’m strong in who I am, I’m confident in who I am, I’m confident in mine and his relationship,” she continued. “I’m confident in our life, so why does what other people say have to matter at all?”
And while Brittany—who shares kids Sterling, 3, and Patrick “Bronze,” 20 months—knows that the haters are going to hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, she does take a moment to send a message here and there.
“I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories Aug. 23. “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”
But she’s also more accustomed to it now, especially since it increased when Taylor Swift started dating her husband’s teammate Travis Kelce last year.
“Recently there has been A LOT more rude ass people on here,” she shared on her Instagram Stories in December. “I don’t know where y’all came from, but you should probably go back to where you came from.”
Although Brittany, who has since become a good pal of Taylor’s, sometimes needs a pep talk from Patrick, the NFL player previously gushed at her approach to the online hate.
“She was an athlete growing up,” Patrick, 28, told E! News last July. “If you played any sports, you know [there are] as many people that enjoy how you play and the effort that you give [as] people that are always going to hate on you. And so she has a good sense of that.”
What is her mindset? He explained, “Enjoy your life every single day and not worry about what everyone thinks.”
“Life’s short,” he continued. “You want to enjoy those moments and remember those moments. And for us, we try to enjoy those moments with our family as much as possible.”
In fact, the three-time Super Bowl champion also emphasized that he often leans on Brittany for support.
“She has her head on her shoulders the right way,” he added. “She’s my rock. She’s the one that, through tough times, can get me through.”
