Hamilton plays down any trouble with Mercedes due to strategy

Lewis Hamilton has clarified that there is no trouble between him and Mercedes F1 team after wrong strategy undertaken in Singapore GP.

Hamilton started on the soft tyre in F1 Singapore GP after Mercedes felt he could have jumped Max Verstappen and extended his stint due to lower case of degradation. Neither of it happened which left the Brit in a spot of bother as he eventually lost couple of positions in the end.

Teammate George Russell eased past him and Charles Leclerc too recovered to clear him, with Hamilton in a no mans land. Even before the grand prix, the Brit was perplexed with the strategy decision of Mercedes and seemingly hinted that he went with it, even though he didn’t think it was correct.

Once on the soft tyre on the grid, Hamilton was already frustrated and vented the same on the radio. There was not much he could have done, a sentiment Russell agreed too when they were speaking about the topic during the Petronas’ 50 year celebration in Malaysia.

With the social media targeting Mercedes for its strategy lapse, which James Allison admitted to, it only enraged his fans to blast on the F1 team with conspiracy theories. Hamilton took to social media to ease the tension and clarified that there is nothing wrong between them.

“Hey all heading into the weekend focused on training for the next race,” wrote Hamilton. “I know there has been a lot of chat around the last one and our strategy in Singapore which just didn’t work. When that happens it’s natural to be frustrated and easy for me to speak out in that frustration.

“We knew starting on soft tires was a bold and risky move but one that could give us an advantage at the start and I ultimately agreed with that recommendation. We also miscalculated what others might do. Make no mistake though, things are cool with the team.

“As with all the successful partnerships, you have to have some lows to have the highs. We’re not afraid of those tricky conversations and challenging moments which is why we achieved so much together. We will support each other to the very end. It’s all love. See you in Austin,” summed up Hamilton, who is gearing up for the last six races with Mercedes.
