Martin Brundle speaks to Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton about why he loves his home race and an impending move to Ferrari

As the British Grand Prix approaches, excitement is building not only for the race itself but for the potential shakeup of the Formula 1 landscape. One of the sport’s most iconic figures, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, sat down with Martin Brundle to discuss his passion for the home race at Silverstone and address the swirling rumors about a possible move to Ferrari.

Hamilton, a native of Stevenage, has always spoken with pride about racing at Silverstone, a track that holds a special place in his heart. Having won the British Grand Prix an impressive eight times, the most by any driver in Formula 1 history, Hamilton’s connection to the circuit runs deep. In the interview, Hamilton reflects on what Silverstone means to him, the electrifying energy of the British fans, and how it motivates him year after year.

“There’s something about racing at Silverstone that’s unlike anywhere else,” Hamilton says with a smile. “The history, the crowd—it’s home. You feel that energy, that support from the fans, and it drives you. It’s like nowhere else in the world.” For Hamilton, racing at his home circuit is about more than just competing; it’s about connecting with the British fans who have supported him throughout his career. “They’ve been with me from the start, through every high and low, and to come back here every year and race in front of them is special.”

Hamilton’s passion for his home race is evident, but the interview takes a more intriguing turn when Brundle asks him about one of the biggest rumors circulating in the F1 paddock—his possible move to Ferrari. Speculation has been rampant that Hamilton, whose contract with Mercedes is nearing its end, might make the switch to the legendary Italian team before his career comes to a close.

Brundle, never one to shy away from the big questions, puts it to Hamilton directly: “There’s been a lot of talk about Ferrari. Is there any truth to the rumors that you might be considering a move?”

Hamilton remains composed but doesn’t entirely dismiss the possibility. “I’ve always admired Ferrari,” he admits. “It’s a team with an incredible history and legacy in the sport. Every driver, at some point, dreams of racing in red. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved at Mercedes, and they’re like family to me, but who knows what the future holds?”

This admission adds fuel to the already blazing fire of speculation. While Hamilton has spent the bulk of his career with Mercedes, winning six of his seven world titles with the Silver Arrows, the allure of Ferrari—the sport’s most storied and glamorous team—remains a tempting possibility.

Hamilton goes on to explain that any decision he makes about his future will not be taken lightly. “Right now, my focus is on this season, on winning races for Mercedes, and making sure we’re in the best position possible. But of course, as with any career, there’s always a point where you start thinking about new challenges and what could be next.”

For Hamilton, the prospect of joining Ferrari represents not just a career move, but potentially the final chapter of an already glittering career. The challenge of delivering Ferrari’s first drivers’ title since 2007 might be the kind of opportunity that appeals to a competitor of his caliber. “I’m a racer at heart,” he says. “I always want to push myself, and sometimes that means considering new challenges.”

The idea of Hamilton in Ferrari red is tantalizing for F1 fans worldwide. With his immense talent and competitive spirit, Hamilton could very well write another incredible chapter in his career with Ferrari. However, as he emphasizes throughout the interview, nothing is set in stone. “There’s a lot to think about, and when the time comes to make a decision, it will be based on what’s best for me, both personally and professionally.”

As the British Grand Prix nears, Hamilton remains firmly focused on the task at hand—delivering another victory at his beloved Silverstone in front of a passionate home crowd. “Winning at Silverstone never gets old,” he says with a grin. “It’s the best feeling in the world.”

Whether Hamilton stays with Mercedes or makes the leap to Ferrari, one thing is certain: the next chapter of his career promises to be as thrilling and unpredictable as the man himself. Fans will be watching closely, eager to see how the future unfolds for one of Formula 1’s greatest drivers.
